Buffets are a godsend for families with picky eaters, as they offer so much variety, virtually even the pickiest will find something they enjoy there. There are many buffet chains out there, and people have as wide opinions about their favorite chain restaurants as they have food offerings on their menu, but the independent buffets of the world often offer the absolute best dining experiences overall.

Judy Boone’s Family Kitchen in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina is one such independently operated buffet that exceeded all possible expectations. There is no comparison when one can safely say they enjoyed literally every single item they tried. Whatever Judy Boone’s is doing, please keep doing so.

A non-chain buffet restaurant is rare enough to encounter these days, let alone one as utterly delicious and incredibly affordable as Judy Boone’s. The lunch buffet is $10.99 every day, except Sunday when it jumps up $2 (and Mondays when they are closed), and dinner is always $15.99 - which is an amazing value for the quality no matter how one looks at it.

The menu changes up a few items each day for both lunch and dinner, but the mainstays are a solid array of Southern comfort classics. The fried chicken and fried pork chops were expertly crafted, spiced perfectly, and stood out as clear favorites. The collards and baked mac and cheese were both exceptional as well, wonderfully savory all around.

For those looking for a certain cuisine on top of the Southern staples, the weekends generally offer more specific nights for that. Thursday dinners are BBQ night, Fridays offer up a number of seafood specialties, and Saturdays are Southern Comfort Saturday with Judy Boone’s signature Mississippi Pot Roast.
