Mission San Juan Capistrano to Host Field of Honor® Featuring over 450 American Flags

    2024-04-18

Mission San Juan Capistrano is proud to continue its special partnership with Homefront America in hosting the 2024 Field of Honor® recognizing military heroes, veterans and first responders. The installation of over 450 American flags will be in place at the Mission from Tuesday, May 21 through Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 with a ceremony on Tuesday, May 21 at noon.

Field of Honor® transforms the Mission’s central Courtyard with a beautiful display of more than 450 community-sponsored, seven-foot-tall American flags each honoring the service and heroism of a specific military member, veteran, first responder, K-9 or equestrian hero. Flag sponsorships begin at $50 per flag with all proceeds benefiting Homefront America’s charitable programs for military families.

“We are profoundly grateful to continue our partnership with Mission San Juan Capistrano to bring this extraordinary display of patriotism to the community. This beautiful historic landmark pays respect to those who sacrificed so much for our cherished freedoms,” says Homefront America, Inc. Founder and President Mamie Yong Maywhort.

Field of Honor® takes place during Mission San Juan’s normal operating hours and regular admission pricing will be in effect. In honor of this special event, the Mission will be open on Memorial Day, May 27 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

“Mission San Juan is the perfect venue to celebrate the enduring sacrifices made by so many. We believe the setting upholds the beauty of the American hero in a way no other can match,” said Mission San Juan Capistrano Executive Director Mechelle Lawrence Adams.

Active-duty service members receive free admission and a special grant funding by the Casey Family Foundation will allow for free admission for up to 150 members of military families throughout the exhibit.
