    Pick. Chamber honors best business leaders

    MOUNT STERLING — Three top businesses were honored with awards at the Pickaway County Chamber of Commerce’s annual dinner Thursday at Flora and Field.

    The community, politicians, civic leaders and the Herald embraced an opportunity to pay tribute to business leaders over a fine meal at a gorgeous location. Among those gathered for the banquet included Circleville Mayor Michelle Blanton, State Representative Brian Stewart, Pickaway Progress Partnership (P3) and Pickaway County Port Authority Tim Colburn among other local leaders.

    “Every year, the Chamber recognizes outstanding member businesses that stand out in our community. The nominations come from you, our members, and the winners’ colleagues. This year we received a large number of nominations which is a tribute to the businesses that belong to the Pickaway County Chamber,” said Gabrielle Cahill, an active chamber member before she presented the awards.

    Chamber’s 2023 Business Pride Award was presented to Jaysa Angles of All Angles Fitness.

    Chamber’s 2023 Jean Ankrom Memorial Retail-Service Award was presented to Bo Lacey Construction.

    Chamber’s 2023 Business Person of the Year was presented to Sheree Jankiewicz of Christopher’s Boutique.

    As to the Business Pride award, this nomination stated that the nominee, “has been volunteering in the community, creating innovative ways to bring people to her space, participated in Pumpkin Show as a vendor location, supports other small businesses and genuinely wants to see Circleville and Pickaway County succeed. She offers so many inclusive workout formats and hosts events with local businesses as partners!”

    The criterion for this award includes:

    • Demonstration and commitment to upholding quality and integrity in the product they sell/service

    • They take pride in their business both externally and internally by

    • Renovating an existing building, constructing a new building, or making improvements to current location

    • Recognizing and rewarding employees for company successes

    • Exceeding all customer service expectations

    • Expanding goods and services offered

    As to the Jean Ankrom Memorial Retail-Service award, this nomination form read, “This company expanded their office to Circleville in 2020 and is known for their outstanding commitment to their customers and employees. They actively engage with the community through various initiatives. Whether it’s organizing charity events, sponsoring local youth sports teams, or donating dog food to the local shelters, the company takes pride in giving back to the community it serves. The company exemplifies these qualities through its innovative approach to roofing services, industry leadership, community involvement, ethical business practices, and dedication to maintaining top-notch operations and facilities.”

    Criteria for this award includes:

    • Demonstration of innovation in product or service presentation and/or delivery

    • Recognition as an industry leader in their field

    • Demonstration of leadership in civic involvement

    • Displays honorable and ethical operation of their business

    • Demonstrates pride in the facility, and

    • The business may have no more than 50 employees.

    As to the Business Person of the Year award, the nomination form read, “This person has worked in this store since she was 14, and it has been open for 53 years, owned by her grandmother before her. She is a role model to several employees and leads them with charisma and integrity, teaching the ways of retail service. She is a businesswomen who cares about her community, and willingly supports local organizations. She can often be found making conversation and connections among people beyond the walls of her store. She believes in her business,

    her town, and her role as a retail store owner is unmatched.”

    Criteria for this award includes that the:

    • Individual must be the company’s owner or operator

    • Must have performed outstanding services resulting in advancement and betterment of the community

    • And must possess personal and professional characteristics including honesty, sincerity, integrity, benevolence, and fairness
