The Pickaway County Republican Central Committee members elected Travis Ricketts as chairman. During committee’s reorganization meeting April 11, Ricketts received 24 votes to Mike Agosta’s 15 votes and there was one vote for the previous year’s chairman, Mike Whitten. There were three members absent. The purpose of the meeting is to elect the new officers to serve for the next two years as required by the Ohio Revised Code.

Ricketts recently ran in the Republican primary for county Recorder where he placed second of three candidates with nearly 3,000 votes. Ricketts works as a policy advisor to the Republican Caucus of the Ohio House of Representatives.

Ricketts said he wants to unite the various factions of the party.

“I want to give everyone a say in this committee,” he said. “I want to unite people through communication, transparency and equal input. This is our time to come together for the good of all Republicans in Pickaway County.”

Agosta was elected to the Logan Elm Board of Education in November 2023, and took the oath of office on January 8, 2024. He was a previous member of Logan Elm School Board for 8 years.

The following are the two speeches by the candidates nominated to be the new chairman.

Travis RickettsI’ve met all of you recently campaigning, in my campaign work, in my work at the Statehouse and I want to use that experience and our relationships to build a better party so that we can win.

We are about 200 days away from the elections and that means we have 3 mission agendas — reclaim the White House, elect Bernie Moreno in the Senate, and support our county-wide candidates in order to get them back into office. How are we going to do that?

If elected, I want to employ an aggressive outreach and “com” strategy in order to engage our Pickaway County voters. A new website. Monthly emailed newsletters. Monthly Open House meetings here with the public. Inviting local electives to give updates on their campaigns or their offices. And employ a comprehensive “com” strategy with the media so that the people know that our elected and our party are doing good work and how they can communicate.

I also want to work with all of you guys. I hold no animosities for anything. I just want to build an aggressively active party so that we can assure a conservative victory in elections going forward. Thank you.

    Mike Agosta

I am a member of Logan Elm School Board. I have three children that graduated from Logan Elm, one of which is in the United States Navy. The other two graduated from Ohio University. I just want to say that if I’m not elected, I pledge to help this party, whoever is elected.

We have some issues here in Pickaway County. There’s an elephant in the room. And I think we all need to work together. We really need to respect each other. We really need to be accountable for what we do and how things reflect upon our party here in this county. If we don’t, I think we are going to have some competition from the Democrats. It may not be next year. It may be ten years from now.

Capitalism and the Conservative Way have really helped me in my life. It’s helped my children. I’ve put that on them and that’s really helped everyone in my family.

I’m proud to have been a Republican my whole life. I think I missed one election in the last thirty plus years. I care about this county. I care about the Republican party. And I think we can do better. And again, I have no animosity against anyone in this room. I really don’t. I’ll work with whoever we need to work with to advance our party in this county.
