    Winnebago corrections officer dies just three weeks following her retirement

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the passing of corrections officer Ruth Raxter, three weeks after her retirement.

    According to the sheriff’s office, Raxter died Friday, April 19th.

    “Ruth began her career with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 as a Corrections Officer and recently retired on March 29, 2024 as a Sr. Corrections Officer/PREA Compliance Officer,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.

    “The members of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office offer their deepest condolences to Ruth’s family and friends. Please keep her family, friends and her county law enforcement family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” the statement continued.
