The final chapter of a transformative journey has been penned along Balls Ford Road in Prince William County, Virginia. A ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the General Shale Brick Company marked the official completion of the ambitious project to widen this crucial artery to a four-lane, divided roadway.

Amidst a backdrop of applause and celebration, county officials, along with local, regional, and state dignitaries, gathered to commemorate the culmination of years of planning and execution. Gainesville District Supervisor Bob Weir expressed his gratitude, praising the project's timely delivery and fiscal responsibility.

The 1.2-mile stretch of improved roadway, nestled in the Gainesville Magisterial District, not only boasts increased capacity but also a suite of safety enhancements. A spacious 16-foot-wide grass median now provides a buffer between opposing lanes, while a 10-foot-wide shared-use path and a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk grace the south and north sides of the road, respectively.

For Prince William County Department of Transportation Director Rick Canizales, the completion of the project represents a significant milestone in the county's ongoing efforts to combat congestion and enhance mobility. The collaboration between local and regional entities, highlighted by the contribution of $48 million in concessionaire funding from I-66 Express Mobility Partners, underscores the collective commitment to improving transportation infrastructure.

Monica Backmon, CEO of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, emphasized the broader impact of such investments, noting their role in reducing congestion, enhancing economic productivity, and improving overall quality of life for residents.

With the widening of Balls Ford Road serving as a cornerstone of Prince William County's comprehensive transportation capital program, valued at over $1.3 billion, the stage is set for continued progress and prosperity. As the county looks to the future, collaboration, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to enhancing connectivity will remain paramount in shaping a thriving and resilient community for generations to come.
