The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Brooke Reaves, of Jacksboro, Garrett Pennington, of Bryson, and Cole Keeney, of Perrin. Brooke Reaves, JHS Brooke Reaves had a good day both in the softball pitching circle and at the plate in helping the Tigerettes finish the District 7-3A schedule with a perfect 12-0 record. Reaves came on in relief of Shelby Seaberry and threw three innings of onehit ball with four strikeouts. She was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, her first-inning single bringing home a run as part of a five-run Tigerette opening frame. Reaves said she likes both starting pitching and coming on in relief. “Whatever it takes to help the team,” Reaves said. “I know they have my back defensively, so I can just throw.” Coach John Bennett likes her spirit and fun attitude, how she keeps the team loose and the way “she’s always steady in what she does.” Garrett Pennington, BHS In his second start on the mound for the Cowboys since an injury, Garrett Pennington guided Bryson to a 12-1 win over Huckabay. Pennington said he felt good on the mound and found a niche. He struck out six in three innings of work. He also aided the Bryson cause offensively, getting an RBI single in the first and a two-RBI triple in the fourth to help end the game on the “run rule.” “He helped us out to a good start, which is what we needed,” Bryson coach Justin Ramirez said. Cole Keeney, PWHS Cole Keeney had a big week, securing a 3-2 walk-off victory Tuesday, April 16 over Nocona. “He’s had a big year for us, particularly in district,” Perrin coach Dr. Scott McPherson said. Keeney has been an offensive charge at the plate in district with a .410 batting average, including four doubles and four triples for the Pirates.
