    Sports briefs: VHS baseball plans Alumni Night

    CHURCH HILL — The Volunteer baseball team will host Alumni Night on Thursday, April 25, when the Falcons host the Cherokee Chiefs at Joey Seaver Field. Game time is 7 p.m. Alumni should plan to arrive between 6 and 6:15 p.m. to participate in a ceremony before the game.

    Those planning to attend should RSVP by April 23 to coach Josh Peterson or VSN’s Hannah Sawyer (vhssportsnetwork.com).

    VHS cheerleading tryouts coming up

    CHURCH HILL — Volunteer High School will host cheerleading tryouts April 23-25 from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. each day in the school gym. Tryouts are open to all rising freshmen through senior Volunteer High School students, male and female.

    Athletes must have an updated physical on file with the athletic trainer to participate in tryouts. Informational packets are available in the main offices at Volunteer and at Church Hill and Surgoinsville middle schools. To learn more, email samantha.allen@hck12.net.

    Family Dodgeball Day is April 27

    ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville Parks and Recreation Department will host Family Dodgeball Day on Saturday, April 27, at the Rogersville City Park tennis courts from 10 a.m. to noon.

    The event is free. Teams will be put together on site throughout the morning, so everyone is invited to bring family and friends out to participate. No advance registration is required.

    Relay for Life set for May 4

    Relay for Life of Hawkins County will host its survivor and caregiver walks on May 4 at Rogersville City Park.

    A talent show will kick off a full evening of festivities at 4 p.m. on the City Park stage. Survivor registration will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. with the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. followed by the walks. There’ll be live music and entertainment from 7-9 p.m. with the luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m. There’ll be food booths, games and silent auctions throughout the event.

    The talent show will feature a solo and group category with three age groups (ages 11 and under, 12-18 and 19 and older). The registration fee is $10. Pre-register at the office or before 3:45 p.m. on the day of the event. For details, contact Tammy Easterling at 423-923-1250.

    All proceeds benefit Relay for Life of Hawkins County.

    Bulls Gap physicals will be May 6

    BULLS GAP — Physicals for Bulls Gap Middle School athletes will be held during school on Monday, May 6, at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $10. Student-athletes should see Coach Chris Hughes or stop by the office to pick up a packet.

    RMS physicals will be May 7

    ROGERSVILLE — Physicals for RMS athletes will be held during school Tuesday, May 7, at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $10. Student-athletes should see Coach Matt Seals to pick up a packet.

    SMS Booster Club plans bounce day

    SURGOINSVILLE — The SMS Booster Club will host a bounce day at Riverfront Park in Surgoinsville on Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per child to bounce all day. Concessions will be available.
