There's been much discussion the 4th District Congressional race and rightfully so, but in the 3rd District a candidate is fighting a legal battle to be on the Republican ticket in the Primary.

Michael Lapierre has filed a nearly 2.5 million dollar federal lawsuit in an effort to get on the ballot in June. The move comes after his candidacy was not certified by the SCGOP due to residency requirements. Lapierre does not live in the 3rd District and ran for the 4th District Congressional Seat in 2022.

When reached in response to the lawsuit, a Spokesperson for the SCGOP said they could not comment on pending litigation. However, they stood by their original ruling based on the residency requirements.

Lapierre maintains the SCGOP is violating his Constitutional Rights by not allowing him on the ballot.

The 3rd District Primary is set for June 11th, incumbent Jeff Duncan is vacating the seat after deciding not to run for another term.
