With Cinco de Mayo on the horizon, Olmeca Altos Tequila is expanding its margarita-centric "emergency" lime delivery service to the U.S. The concept is straightforward: ring up Olmeca's hotline number (dubbed the "HotLime"), and you'll be entered for a chance to win some bright green citrus in the mail. Actress Busy Philipps, best known for her roles in "Freaks and Geeks," "Dawson's Creek" and the 2024 reboot of "Mean Girls," has been recruited to pick up the line and chat with at-home margarita mixologists. The initiative was first launched exclusively in the U.K. in mid-2023, with comedian and podcaster Alice Levine acting as its spokesperson. According to the brand's meticulous research, two-thirds of Brits have run out of lime while making margaritas at some point in their life. This time around, the hotline is expanding to include habanero mango honey, bucket hats and cantaritos cups for lucky winners who dial up 888-268-1261 in the United States. The program will run from April 24 through May 5.
"This incredibly fun partnership is one I couldn't resist! Besides helping make sure people can have fresh limes to make delicious margaritas, I'll also be surprising some winners and picking up the phone lines to chat," Philipps said in a press release. "You might want to add the Altos Tequila Emergency HotLime number to your speed dial now."
Year after year, Cinco de Mayo musters up some headline-grabbing campaigns in the tequila world. In 2023, Jose Cuervo teamed up with White Lotus star Haley Lu Richardson to give out hundreds of " dumb phones " in honor of the holiday, while Don Julio built a literal tequila ATM
in the heart of downtown New York City. And who could forget when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson offered $1 million worth of guacamole to Teremana Tequila drinkers? For tequila brands, Cinco de Mayo is Christmas and New Year's wrapped into one, an all-out celebration of agave perfect for courting the interest of new consumers. In the days and weeks to come, keep an eye out for more attention-grabbing promos from the industry's biggest names. [botmc-promo]
