    Defiance County grand jury returns 10 indictments

    A Defiance County grand jury has returned indictments against 10 persons, according to Prosecutor Morris Murray’s office.

    Indicted were:

    • Simon Ramirez Jr., 66, 920 Karnes Ave., for possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony.

    • Jeffery Mansfield, 44, 08306 Ohio 15, for failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony. Authorities allege that on April 11 he fled from a traffic stop on Defiance’s East High Street and created a substantial risk of serious physical harm to persons or property in the area when he his vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Authorities further allege that the pursuit eventually entered into Henry County where Mansfield was later taken into custody.

    • Tammy Vibbert, 53, 1520 Mustang Drive, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a third-degree felony.

    • Orelius Smith III, 45, 08791 Christy Road, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a third-degree felony; and Tara Carter, 38, Bryan, for identity fraud and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Dec. 1 during a traffic stop on Domersville Road, Smith was the driver and owner of a vehicle in which police recovered over 10 grams of methamphetamine. Authorities further allege that during the stop, Carter used the personal identifying information of another person, and she was also found in possession of a fentanyl-related compound.

    • Ryan Thompson, 30, 13949 Lockwood Road. for possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, and OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor.

    • Jerry Stevens, 66, Archbold, for OVI, a third-degree felony; and assault, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Feb. 16 on Evansport Road, he operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was involved in a single-vehicle car crash. Authorities further allege that Stevens caused, or attempted to cause ,physical harm to a law enforcement officer who responded to the scene. He also has a prior felony OVI conviction.

    • Jonathan Miller, 28, Wooster, for passing bad checks, a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on Jan. 11 he used a check to pay for services totaling over $4,000 at a business on Hicksville’s Defiance Avenue knowing that the check would be dishonored.

    • Levi Socha, 23, 1939 E. Second St., for receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on April 16 on Defiance’s East Second Street, he was found in possession of a motor vehicle stolen from a Michigan residence.

    • Darrell Scheele, 70, 266 Gray St., for failure to register, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege from April 2-18, Scheele, a registered sex offender, failed to register his address as required.
