The Rice Lake girls soccer team didn't allow a goal as the Warriors (5-2-5) defeated Baldwin-Woodville and tied Rhinelander in a pair of games Saturday on Pug Lund Field.

In a nonconference match against a possible playoff regional opponent, the Warriors scored twice early to lift them to the victory over the Blackhawks.

"We treated this game as if it were a playoff game with the No. 1 seeding in the playoffs on the line," coach Shawn Gilbert said. "Our girls were unselfish with their passing and were very strong defensively."

In the game's 10th minute, off a corner kick, the ball had bounced back to the outside where Clara Drost gathered and sent a shot toward the goal. The ball bounced through the hands of the goalkeeper and into the net as Rice Lake got on the scoreboard.

Six minutes later Ella Clark sent a pass back outside to Saydee Davis, who launched a kick from 25 yards out that ricocheted off a Blackhawk defender and past the goalkeeper.

In the second half Natalie Nolin made it 3-0 after a pass from Julia Holthaus.

Warrior goalkeeper Ayla Zuzek saved both shots on goal she faced from Baldwin-Woodville (5-2-1).

It was a scoreless game in the Warriors' second contest of the day, as the Warriors have held their opponent without a goal seven times this season.

Zuzek secured all six shots on goal from the Hodags (6-0-2).

"Rhinelander is a sectional opponent we may see again in the playoffs," Gilbert said. "We controlled the play and had several good opportunities but just couldn't find the net. This was a good test for the girls mentally and physically as it was our second game of the day."
