Tampa, Florida – In a significant admission of guilt, 68-year-old Allen R. Jenkins of Sarasota has pleaded guilty to theft of government property, announced United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. Jenkins now faces up to 10 years in federal prison, with his sentencing date pending.

The case against Jenkins stemmed from his illicit activities while receiving disability benefits from the United States Railroad Retirement Board (USRRB). According to the plea agreement, despite being a USRRB disability annuitant, Jenkins was actively involved in various business endeavors during the time he claimed disability. He was registered as an agent or officer for at least 22 businesses, held five real estate broker’s licenses, and worked as a licensed Community Association Manager, all of which he failed to report as income.

Furthermore, Jenkins engaged in property buying and renovations for profit, none of which he disclosed to the USRRB. His omission of these activities, coupled with providing false and misleading information on official documents when questioned by the Railroad Retirement Board, led to an overpayment of approximately $271,124 in disability benefits.

This case was meticulously investigated by the Railroad Retirement Board, Office of the Inspector General, reflecting the government's commitment to prosecuting benefit fraud. Special Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne Huyler and Assistant United States Attorney Michael Gordon are leading the prosecution, underlining the seriousness with which federal authorities are treating the case.
