You guys, it’s the unofficial national *NSYNC day. That’s right, today is April 30, which means, tomorrow — “It's gonna be May.”

The iconic line from the bands third album hit track “It’s Gonna Be Me,” that thanks to Justin Timberlake ’s annunciation of the word "me" as “May" has resulted in an endless amount of memes.

"There was the one meme that was like, Justin looking like he was dressed up in something from the Night's Watch from 'Game of Thrones' and I sent him one of those,” Joey Fatone recently told People . “It was really funny. Every once in a while, one of us will find a good one and we'll send it on the group text."

That being said, there’s been one meme in particular that has stood the test of time. And it re-appears each year on April 30.

As Fatone noted, "it wasn't even a thing" when the song first came out in 2000. "It was just, 'It's gonna be me.' When you sing it, it sounds a lot harsher if you're trying to go, 'It's gonna be meeeee.' It doesn't sound very good to the ear. So when we pronounced it, Max Martin came up with the idea of saying, 'It's gonna be May.' But we never knew that it was going to take off and become its own thing. And every year you get crazy stuff. But it's hilarious. And we might as well embrace it.”

According to a 2016 E! News article , the first iteration of the meme appeared on Tumblr in 2012. The meme was of Kianna Davis holding a calendar featuring a smiling photo of Timberlake on April 30 with the word "It's gonna be May!" written on it. The meme caught fire and different versions of it have been in circulation ever since.

JT even got in on the fun during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, posting a version of the meme where his mouth is covered by a mask.

Chris Kirkpatrick has also participated... more than once.

So like clockwork, in anticipation for the calendar to flip from April to May, the memes have already started to show up on social media. So get to scrolling to find your fave, or, if you're about it, just post your own.
