The Maryland State Board of Elections reminds eligible Marylanders that they can still register to vote in the 2024 primary election. To maximize voter registration, SBE this week is mailing postcards to approximately 750,000 Marylanders who are not registered to inform them they can still register and vote during early voting and on election day.

“Registering to vote is the critical first step to ensuring your voice is heard in this year’s primary election,” said State Administrator Jared DeMarinis. “We encourage every eligible Marylander to find their local early voting center or polling place and bring the necessary documentation to register and exercise their right to vote.”

    Two Options for Voter Registration

In-Person Early Voting: Marylanders can register to vote during in-person early voting, which begins Thursday, May 2, and ends Thursday, May 9. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Make sure to bring a document that proves where you live.

In-Person Voting on Election Day: Marylanders can also register to vote on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, May 14.

    Early Voting Centers

    County Office Building, Conference Room

    110 Vincit Street, Centreville

    Kent Island Fire Department

    1610 Main Street, Chester

    Mail-in Ballots

If you received your ballot by mail or fax, you need a black pen to vote. Carefully follow the instructions.

If you download your ballot from the State’s website, you can print the blank ballot and mark your ballot by hand.

Do not sign your name or make any other mark on your ballot.

Write-in voting is only allowed in general elections. A general election ballot has spaces for write-in votes. To cast a write-in vote by hand, fill in the oval to the left of the space for the write-in vote, and write the first and last names of the person in the appropriate space.

You must mail or hand deliver your mail-in ballot to a voting location, a ballot drop off box, or your local board of elections. You cannot email or fax your voted mail-in ballot.
