Court discusses HVAC units, software Brian Smith Tue, 04/30/2024 - 8:38 pm   Justice of the Peace Jessica Bailey speaks to Jack County commissioners during their Monday, April 22 meeting about software changes. Photo/Brian Smith Jack County Commissioners took no action on replacing an air conditioning unit at the county jail during the Monday, April 22 meeting. Jail Administrator Scott Simonton said some of the units have been replaced already that have been there since the building opened 22 years ago. The unit to be replaced would be for the booking area and in the low security inmate area. “We’re getting by monthto- month right now,” Simonton said. “Recharging the systems isn’t working either.” Precinct 1 Commissioner Gary Oliver asked about the cost of repairing the leaks and changing out the freon. “Just writing a check isn’t a response either,” Oliver said. County Judge Keith Umphress said replacing two of the units over the last six to eight months has hit the county in the pocketbook but also noted that anytime an older unit is replaced, it can save electricity and be more efficient in the long run. He said there are several other units of the same age that will likely need to be replaced in the short term. Simonton said he would check into costs for repairing the leaks in the hoses and changing out the freon and report back to commissioners at a future meeting. Software changes In other news, Justice of the Peace Jessica Bailey asked commissioners to allow her to switch her operating software back to NET Data from its present software, Local Government Solutions. LGS is the software several county of_ces use for operations, including billing, to keep track of case load and other tasks, depending on the of_ce. Bailey said she and her staff have had numerous problems with the software, including the wrong plaintiffs on cases which have had to be replaced several times. Bailey said her of_ce is having to manually enter items from the old NET Data software to keep things correct. The county switched to LGS Software in October 2023 due to cost.
