Corey Seager has yet to get things rolling offensively this season, but Bruce Bochy is expecting that to change soon.

Seager missed most of spring training due to sports hernia surgery that kept him from strenuous exercise throughout camp. He ultimately was ready to go in time for Opening Day, but has yet to put up the offensive numbers we’ve come to expect from him.

The shortstop is hitting .236 with a .631 OPS so far this season, with a pair of homers, eight RBIs and 12 runs scored. Certainly, Texas is hoping for more from a player who historically has been a lynchpin in the Rangers lineup and hits from the No. 2 spot every night.

Seager’s track record suggests that one of these days he’ll break out offensively. The Rangers manager said Wednesday in his weekly appearance on K&C Masterpiece that he’s thinking that day will come soon.

“I don’t know if Corey’s 100 percent,” Bochy said. “When you have surgery, that takes time and you’re going to have those days where it flares up a little bit – which I think has happened with him, but he doesn’t say anything. It’s important that we do check on him and give him his breaks when he needs it, but it’s getting better and better with him.

“So, I think for a guy that’s missed spring training, I think he’s close. I really believe that with another week or two that he’s going to get in the flow of things. It’s tough when you’re not 100 percent in this game, this game is hard enough to play. But he’s going out there with it still there a little bit, it takes a while to come off of surgery.”
