Carrie Joan Mathews, the girlfriend of Kenneth DeHart Jr., has been indicted by a Sevier County grand jury. According to the indictment, which was signed and dated April 29, Mathews is charged with two counts of accessory after the fact.

The first count states that Mathews aided DeHart by “providing Kenneth DeHart with any means of avoiding arrest…” The second count states that Mathews “did warn Kenneth DeHart of impending apprehension or discovery…”

DeHart has been charged with the Feb. 8 shooting death of Blount County Sheriff’s deputy Greg McCowan and the shooting of deputy Shelby Eggers.

Mathews’ arrest warrant states that on Feb. 8, officers were at her home searching for DeHart when she received a phone call from a “Janeisha” who was actually DeHart. Mathews allegedly told DeHart, “They’re here.”

Officers arrested Mathews and charged her with accessory after the fact. She was later released on bond.

DeHart faces 21 charges, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Mathews’ arraignment is set for May 13.
