Crivitz rallies from early deficit to complete season sweep of Wausaukee

    2024-05-02

CRIVITZ — The Crivitz baseball team shrugged off a sluggish start to overcome Wausaukee 15-5 in Marinette and Oconto Conference play on Tuesday.

The victory completes Crivitz’s season sweep of the Rangers.

Wausaukee drew first blood with an RBI by Ryan Wojcik in the top of the first before a three-run home run by Conner Schroeder lifted the Rangers to a 5-0 advantage entering the third inning.

Crivitz chipped away at its deficit in the bottom of the frame after JJ Brand blasted a two-RBI single to bring home Pierce Polomis and Jaxon Kroll before coming around to score himself on an error.

Logan Marvin hit a sacrifice-fly to plate Tegan Werner and pull the Wolverines within one at the bottom of the third.

Crivitz took control for good in the bottom of the fourth after Kaden Klaver batted in a pair of runs, Werner scored on a wild pitch, while Kroll and Brand both crossed home plate on passed balls as part of a nine-run outburst by the Wolverines.

The Wolverines tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fifth after Marvin scored on a passed ball while Ryan Kaus chipped in an RBI-single.

Despite coming out on the wrong end of the final score, Wausaukee out-hit the Wolverines by a 7-to-6 margin but turned in a three-error performance in the process.

Schroeder went a perfect 3-3 at the dish and fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle, finishing with a single, double, home run and three RBIs.

Christian Deschane, Callahan Betts, Luke Smith and Evan Suennen all collected base knocks for the Rangers, with Smith’s going for a triple.

Jackson Schramm was the winning pitcher on Tuesday after giving up seven hits, five runs (all earned) and two walks against seven strikeouts through five innings of work.

Schroeder was hit with the loss on the mound, giving up six earned runs (eight total), two hits, six walks and seven punchouts across three-and-two-thirds innings pitched.
