MARINETTE — Do you live in Menominee County? Well, you do now, according to a factual mishap on a map.

Marinette County residents may have noticed a recent mailer by Sen. Mary Felzkowski, which listed the county incorrectly as “Menominee County” among the areas she served, with the area depicting Marinette County.

No, the county has not switched names. It was an error.

“This mistake was made in the graphic design phase of the map, which our Legislative Technical Service Bureau and graphic designers put together as quickly as possible following the governor’s signing of new legislative lines,” Sen. Felzkowski said.

Felzkowski is running for the 12th District, which was newly redrawn and now includes all of Marinette County.

Linsay Hale, the chief clerk and director of operations of the Wisconsin Senate, said their taxpayer-funded office assists the senate with maps, mailers and letterhead. The mailer had been reviewed multiple times.

“Unfortunately, in the translation there was a typo that occurred,” Hale said.

She said the office is nonpartisan and provides its services universally for any Senate member. It is not affiliated with any campaign-related material.

Felzkowski stressed that her mailer last year didn’t include the mixup.

“In 2022, I sent out a postcard that had Marinette County correctly labeled, so this is not by any means a lack of geographical knowledge of my district,” Felzkowski said.

As a representative of parts of Marinette County for four years, she said she appreciated the opportunity to address the incorrect map information.

“I appreciate everyone who’s contacted my office to point out the mistake,” Felzkowski said. “ These are the people I work for, and I take their comments and concerns very seriously. I apologize to the residents of Marinette County who were genuinely confused by the error. It’s an absolute honor to be the voice for the amazing folks who live there.”
