(WLFI) — After facing tough times and possible closure due to expensive equipment problems, the iconic Glover's Ice Cream is set to make a comeback, thanks to a group of friends and a shared passion for this sweet ice cream treat."We talked about it and drove by it multiple times and then the conversation started about maybe we should look at buying that place and the next thing you know I'm doing an interview with you," said Glover's co-owner David Meek. Originating in Frankfort in 1925, Glover's started with Foster Glover. He would sell ice cream sandwiches on passenger trains that passed through Frankfort.Foster's son Robert took over the business in 1971 and then his grandson Steve stepped in as president in 1991. "Frankfort was so busy with ice cream it would take all day route to go on the west side of town to deliver to the mom and pop stores," said Steve Glover.Steve recalls some of his memories watching his Dad and Grandfather working hard to get the ice cream out quickly to their customers."I remember coming here as a kid and one time in particular they were making ice cream and the only time I ever saw this. They were making little ice cream cups. They were like three ounce cups and my grandfather was filling them and throwing them as fast as he could and my dad was lidding them and my aunt was scooping them up putting them in packages so fast," said Steve. Steve and his wife Kathy ran the business for many years expanding the ice cream flavors and distribution until they were ready to retire.Their three kids went on to other careers and decided not to continue in the family business.Steve Glover says he's happy the family business will be in good hands with local owners who really care."The community is so exited and the feedback is just tremendous, and I know that these guys have a heart and I've seen that every time I meet with them," Steve said. The five man team who decided to come together to buy it and save it from closing include Tony Del Real, Brothers Juan and Tony Reyes, David Meek and Shan Sheridan, all with ties to Clinton County, say they were determined to revive the beloved brand."I can see it growing we just right now want to focus on getting back up and running. We can start making these customers happy that are really wanted the product right now so it's a great thing that everyone is wanting this product. We just got to get it up and rolling and execute on that.With dedication, hard work and a sprinkle of faith, Glover's Ice Cream is on its way back promising to bring joy to ice cream enthusiasts once again.Glover's is the last independent ice cream company in the State of Indiana and is located at 705 W Clinton Street in Frankfort. </div></body>
