Ferrari unveils its hotly-anticipated livery for the Miami GP. This comes also as HP takes its place as title sponsor, making the Ferrari team Scuderia Ferrari HP in official parlance.

The livery has been billed as a celebration of the team’s history -- with a nod towards the blue and white Ferrari 158 John Surtees secured his F1 title in at the 1964 U.S. Grand Prix -- as well as a method for drawing attention to a new title sponsor, HP.

After weeks of hype surrounding Maranello’s special livery for the Miami Grand Prix, it seems the blues aren’t all that blue.

It's a burst of color, that's for sure, with a splash of pink and orange covering the nose and side pods, while the usually red trim has been replaced with a bold sky blue. It screams beach holiday vibes, which is perfect for a race in the Sunshine State. - Visa Cash App RB F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo

Ferrari fans on REDDIT are divided as shown in comments like:

    • If it’s not yellow or red, the car should be crushed
    • Blue Ferrari > Red crucify me
    • Seeing Ferraris in anything but bright red feels so wrong, but I love it so much. That blue is amazing
    • Anything is better than red
    • Bleu de France looks good

F1 teams are concerned with keeping their cars lightweight. The visible carbon fiber on cars is there for a good reason. Paint adds weight to cars.

Still, at least a handful of challengers have been graced with a complete livery to ensure plenty of color is out on track.

The livery incorporates elements of Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino on the SF24s that will race at Miami. The blues have made it onto the wheels, stripes across the bodywork on the halo, splitter, and rear wing.

Many had hoped the livery would be an unprecedented wholesale ditching of Rosso for one weekend only, but those who were daring dreamers. The blues are historic colors for Ferrari and reference the logo of the new title partner, HP.

The wheel covers, for instance, are a nod back to John Surtees’ championship win 1964, which he secured in America. It also references the North American Racing Team (NART) cars of Luigi Chinetti and the British Maranello Concessionaires team.
