( May 6, 2024 ) The sailing team came away with a win over Old Rochester at home Saturday for their second victory in three days, with another busy stretch on the water coming up in the week ahead.

Nantucket won the varsity regatta 3-2, with one race awarded to the Bulldogs via protest. The Whalers also won every junior varsity race.

“The wind was blowing 17 (knots), might have picked up close to 20,” coach Bruce Turner said. “No one flipped, which was great. It was a great day to get a whole bunch of races off. I think we had seven each, seven varsity and seven JV. That’s a lot of races packed into three hours.”

The Whalers, now 6-3 on the season, will be back at Great Harbor Yacht Club Tuesday to host Sturgis East and Thursday to face St. John Paul II. Nantucket will also compete in the Herreshoff qualifiers Saturday, the region’s annual girls' championship.
