When you have Terrell Owens on, you are going to get entertainment. The Hall of Fame wide receiver joined The Morning Roast Monday morning and discussed everything from his son, Terique, signing with the 49ers, to the Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk trade talks, and why he could still be a third-down wide receiver.

It began with a discussion on what Terique Owens brings to the table.

Terrell on what Terique brings to the table

Terrell Owens didn't talk up his son in a delusional way. He was fairly straightforward about where Terique Owens stands as a prospect, what his strengths are, where he needs to grow, and how his father can be a cheat sheet for him.

"[Josina Anderson] told me about Frank Gore's son going to the Buffalo Bills. He was he was a little saltier about you his son not being drafted, but me, I give my son realistic expectations, understanding that he's late to the game of playing football," Owens said. "Honestly he played what, five years of football all because of the COVID year. He had literally four coaches out of those five years, and so didn't really get to play a ton. But again, what I told him is like, 'Look, you have the ability to play just as well as some of those guys that got drafted. You just don't have the resume they do.'"

Terique Owens transferred from Florida Atlantic University to Missouri State after two years of not playing. He had a college career-best 528 yards and 4 touchdowns on 28 receptions.

Owens said that his son is well aware of the comparisons that are going to be made to him. Those comparisons, he said, are not realistic.

"I've already seen now since he's been drafted, a lot of eyes are going to be on him," Owens said. "We've already talked about that, understanding the expectations people are going to start trying to compare him to me. Those are unrealistic expectations. He's raw. He's green. He just like I was...

"We're working on the dedication and the discipline to really separate himself and really get himself on par with some of the guys that were drafted."

Here's what he said on his son's skillset:

"You think about the long arms. His size, he's 6'2", 200 pounds, and as I did he'll get better, he'll get bigger, he'll get stronger. Obviously he'll get faster. A lot of people, they're gonna probably sleep on his speed. We've been working on the fundamentals and the basics of route running, the transition, getting in and out of the route."

The playmaking, he said, will come with understanding, but that the most important thing Terique Owens can do is learn the 49ers' playbook and verbiage to be prepared.

He went on to say that Terique Owens has been working with 49ers wide receivers Coach Leonard Hankerson in virtual classes, and that he's working on understanding the 49ers' verbiage. The Hall of Famer said that while his son can't expect to play the same way he did, he can be a resource, "like having the answers to the test."

"If he's smart enough to actually lean on me, he has a foot up and a leg up on a lot of the competition," Owens said.

On Aiyuk, Deebo (and the Super Bowl)

Of course, it wouldn't be Terrell Owens if there wasn't something spicy. Owens was asked about the 49ers shopping both Samuel and Aiyuk, and how he would've felt in that situation.

He brought it back immediately to his own experience with the 49ers, and insinuated the 49ers might have won the Super Bowl if Aiyuk was more involved.

"Absolutely I'd be pissed off," Owens said. "Look what happened to me in '03. They traded me without even consulting or give me any kind of heads up and tried to ship me to Baltimore. And everybody realizes and knows what I did in San Francisco for eight years. They chose to kind of make Jeff Garcia the priority when I was the one moving the chains when I was there in San Francisco.

"So those guys, they have the right, the prerogative, to feel the way that they feel given why they're there, given the opportunities that they probably should have had going into that Super Bowl.

"And if you looked at how it played off paid out, yes, should they have gotten a little bit more plays here and there? Could Deebo may have been utilized a bit more? I know I think he may have been banged up a little bit here and there. But again, when you think about Aiyuk, and you think about how they lost that game, again, a few more opportunities here and there, then the outcome may have been a little bit different."
