Aside from the carpet color of the first pic being a dead giveaway that it was a fake, the super realistic AI-generated snap of Katy Perry’s 2024 Met Gala look took the internet by storm. Convincing more than 10 million people, 70,000 of which reposted, crowning the singer as the night’s best-dressed.

Setting the record straight, Perry herself, who — yes— DID NOT actually attend the annual star-studded fashion event this year, shared the images on Instagram, alongside the caption, “I couldn’t make it to the MET, had to work.”

Also included was a text convo screenshot that revealed that even the star’s mom was fooled by the impressive deep fakes.

“Didn’t know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol,” her mom had texted. To which Perry replied, “lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!”
