North Wales Live reported on Saturday that a man intends to visit every distillery in Wales as part of a 400-mile bike trip for charity in what he refers to as the " Whisky Ventures Ride. " The ride begins on May 16. Robert Richardson, an outdoor instructor, intends to visit the nine single malt distilleries in Wales as part of a charity initiative for Wales Air Ambulance.
"I went to university in Liverpool and lived there for seven years," Richardson said. "North Wales was my playground."
Wales Air Ambulance is a lifesaving organization that covers the entire geographic area of Wales each day. The organization delivers emergency responder services through helicopter or ambulance, and brings the "hospital directly to the patient." The organization is holding its yearly Walk Wales fundraiser in June, where individuals in the country can walk or jog across distances to raise money for the organization. Richardson is shaking things up by riding his bike through the country — with a fun, boozy twist. The outdoor instructor additionally aims to get each distillery to donate a distinctive bottle of Welsh whisky to go up for auction after the charity initiative. North Wales Live reported that his ride will be tracked via GPS so people can follow along. Richardson is inviting other riders to join in on the fun. The route is set to start at the Wales Air Ambulance base in Cardiff, and Richardson is set to head north from there. It will finish in Holyhead. One of the major distilleries in Wales is
Penderyn Distillery , which offers a range of peated single malts. In September 2022 , the distillery inked a multimillion-dollar distribution deal with China, which set the country up to become Penderyn's largest market for exports. This is not Richardson's first whisky-soaked bike ride. In April 2022 , he rode his bike through Scotland on a 2,000-mile route that encompassed more than 140 distilleries. The first Whisky Ventures Ride supported two Scottish charities, Cash for Kids and Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance. Richardson ended up raising £9,793 ($12,249) [botmc-promo]
