On Tuesday night, Incumbent David Byers won the race for the county commissioner, according to the final results of the Tippecanoe County Election Summary Reports.

Byers received 55.59% of the vote with 5,438 votes. Jeff Findlay, his Republican opposition, received 44.41% of the vote with 4,344 votes.

Facing no Democratic opposition, Byers will be the only option for the county commissioner District 2 position on the November ballot.

"Jeff was a great candidate, I can’t complain about that," said Byers. "He has a very large following, but was also kind of a one trick pony. He had one issue and that was water. I mean, there's a lot more to commissioner than just water”

When asked about what makes this term different, Byers said that he wants to continue his focus on infrastructure.

“I think you always have to look at our infrastructures," he said. "We have over 100 miles of road that we have to try to maintain. We have to maintain 20 bridges. We have to maintain, but we also have to look at the growth that we're doing and hopefully we're controlling it.”

Byers highlighted the county optimism and growth as another important responsibility to uphold.

“I think we have to continue to look at the growth that continues happening now," Byers said. "When companies are still coming to our community, still wanting to invest in our community, still wanting to become part of our community."
