SAN MARCOS — The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) released their final wave of Academic All-State selections recently for the spring sports. Sports recognized include soccer, tennis, golf, softball, baseball, and track and field.
Como-Pickton High School had three athletes recognized for their hard work in the classroom: baseball players Kevin Hernandez and Joel Newsom, and softball player Addi Monk. All three athletes were second-team selections.
The Academic All-State awards are designed to recognize senior high school athletes, trainers and managers who excel in these categories: GPA, class rank, and SAT/ACT scores. To be nominated for Academic All-State, students must meet the following criteria: be an athlete, student trainer, or manager in good standing with the team, of good moral character, a senior, and have an overall GPA of 92 or above (including courses from grades 9 to 11 and courses completed from grade 12).
With this, all three students add another accolade to their high school accomplishments.
