Sometime last year, reports began swirling that Charli was working on new material for Spears , to be featured on her then planned comeback album, her first since since dropping 2016’s Glory .

Confirming the fan called in question, Charli hesitant at first, said, “Um, yes, but, it leaked to the press. Britney then did this post where she was like, ‘I don’t have random people write for me,’” Charli explained. “And I was like, ‘Oh. OK. Go off’. So I don’t know that she was a part of the process, but maybe her team was running before they could walk. Britney probably has a load of other projects that she's focusing on."

“So I did get asked but I don’t know if it’s like… real? I went to Malibu and I wrote. And you always write songs hoping Britney’s gonna record them because she’s the Queen of Pop.” Charli continued, “The team were present… But she didn’t record it. She obviously didn’t. Random," she teased, pointing at herself. Going on to note “I love her,” and that the idea of Spears recording any of her songs would be “a dream come true.”

Charli suggesting she was “random," was mostly strongly influenced by Spears Instagram post from back around the time those rumors started. Spears took to social to say her piece, writing “Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash. They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album. I will never return to the music industry!!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people!!!”

Andy assured Charli she couldn’t have been the "random" person Spears was referring to. "Maybe, maybe not," she said. "Newsflash: you ain't rando," the host told her.
