The CEO of Disney has announced a new release plan for Marvel Studios, after a tumultuous period of uncertainty within the MCU franchise has led to a series of high-profile flops.

Speaking to investors in an earnings call, as reported by Variety , Disney CEO Bob Iger has said that Marvel Studios will be shifting to a focus on quality rather than quantity, as part of a strategy across the whole of Disney to do the same. As part of this new strategy, Marvel will be halving its goals for TV series, dropping down to just two a year, and reducing its movie output to just two or three a year.

“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three,” Iger said in the call.

He continued that Marvel had “a couple good films in [2025]” before ramping up for another Avengers film, which hopefully will leave the MCU in a better state than Endgame did — interest in the MCU dropped off significantly following Endgame, and it hasn’t quite bounced back yet.

“Overall, I feel great about the slate,” Iger says. “It’s something that I’ve committed to spending more and more time on. The team is one that I have tremendous confidence in and the IP that we’re mining, including all the sequels that we’re doing, is second to none.”

Marvel Studios has just one film set to be released in 2024, the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, which will see Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool joining the MCU multiverse alongside a version of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. A new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer featuring a quipping Wade and Logan was released exclusively in IMAX theaters recently, and fans have been spotting secrets in Deadpool & Wolverine trailers at every opportunity.

After Deadpool & Wolverine, 2025 will see the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Blade. You might notice that’s more than three films, but there’s every chance that one or two of those gets pushed into 2026 — we’ll just have to wait and see.
