    TEACH!

I am not sure the requirements have anything to do with the Sissonville case. I think some people should not be teachers, subs, aides or administrators. That said it is ridiculous to have a four year degree in something related to what you’re going to teach and still have to do the piddly online stuff. It would be far better to give some classroom management strategies in person…maybe two days with a small stipend. In that time, instruction can be given about how children should be treated…even troubled kids.

First question that should be asked is, “Do we agree with the certification process. If the process of becoming a teacher were put together better, would we need more substitutes teachers? I have a degree and can’t use it due to tough circumstances. Cant afford the certification process, so my only option is to substitute. If they made it harder I would be forced to find other job opportunities. Teaching isn’t about the money to me; it brings me joy to know I’m instilling good qualities in children that will benefit them and their environment in the future! I can’t do that with lengthy process for certification. From what I hear, the testing (which also must be paid for) provided for it after the courses isn’t friendly at all either. I’d say this should be the focus before changing how we get people on the classroom who want to help seeing as we have a shortage of teachers in the area.
