PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Luke Digiallonardo belted a homer in the ninth inning as Dunlap broke a scoreless tie and won at Morton, 2-0, in a key Mid-Illini Conference baseball game between co-leaders of the conference on Wednesday.

Dunlap shutout Morton twice this week and stayed in first place with the win. The Eagles improved to 9-3 in the league and share the conference lead with East Peoria and Washington.

The Raiders won at Metamora, 10-2, and the Panthers won at Canton, 11-1, to create the three-way tie for the conference lead with two games remaining. Morton slipped to 8-4.

Digiallonardo led off the ninth with a home run that was only Dunlap’s second hit of the game. Jackson Newton added an RBI single later in the inning for the Eagles.

Elsewhere, Normal Community clinched the Big 12 Conference title with a 4-0 win over visiting Notre Dame. Jonah Roper threw a complete game for the Ironmen.

In softball, Olivia Avalos hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give Tremont a 4-2 win over Brimfield.

U-High won the class 2A girls track sectional at Metamora.
