Cushing Crossing Is a Go This Weekend at Palisades Tahoe

Now, back to your regular scheduled programming.

The late season storm last weekend pushed back a couple classic events in the Tahoe area, but they’re back on track for this weekend. The weather is calling for sunny blue skies, the perfect storm for a pond skim.

You don’t want to miss the 32nd Annual Cushing Crossing this weekend at Palisades Tahoe. It’s one of the most high energy pond skims that I’ve been to in the Sierra Nevada.

It’s going down at 1 pm on Saturday May 11, and sign ups start at 8 am at the KT Deck. You must be there in person with 20 bucks cash to get your spot. First come first serve.

Costumes are required and play a big part in your overall score. Crossing the pond is only half the battle. But do you have a silly costume to wear?

There may be some fireworks on the pond, but Palisades pleads for no DIY pyrotechnics this time.

Also, you can sign up with more than one person, but you both must be attached to the same apparatus. Yes, the highly challenging tandem pond skim is definitely on the table.

Category winners will receive prizes from the sponsors; Dakine, Smith, Yeti, and Darn Tough.

They’re hoping to wrap up at 4 pm and take the party to the dance floor with DJ Logic immediately following the pond skim on the KT Deck. DJ Logic played a set last year to much acclaim from the crowd, and everyone is excited to have him back.

While this is a sign that winter is coming to a close, I’m sure we’re all happy to see the sun for an extended period of time. Grab your beach chairs and sunscreen and we’ll see you at the pond.
