Porta Via's Mother's Day Brunch: A Neighborhood Tradition
2024-05-10
Peter Garland takes great pride with the dishes he serves at his restaurant, Porta Via. The veteran restaurant owner has a fantastic brunch planned for mothers at his venues in Beverly Hills, Pacific Palisades, Calabasas and Palm Desert.
"The folks that come to Porta Via on Mother’s Day will not only be close to their families, but be part of our family, too,” Garland told Newsbreak.com.
The special family of neighborhood restaurants serve breakfast or brunch, lunch, and dinner to the Southland seven days a week, with Italian-inspired contemporary Californian cuisine.
"I think what makes Porta Via so special is that, wherever we are, we’re a neighborhood community restaurant that relies on local support for our success. We’ve had so many of the same families visiting our restaurants for so many years."
In Palm Desert, Garland has been building his community there for two years, but is already involved in the Acrisure Arena and the BNP Paribas popups, both of which he hopes to make annual events.
"In Beverly Hills, by contrast, families have been celebrating Mother’s Day with us for 30 years now. They’ve literally grown up with us.”
Garland celebrated his mother Paula’s 90th birthday just this past weekend at Porta Via Beverly Hills. “As a parent, we are often reminded how proud we are of our children. But who I am most proud of, is my mother.”
He fondly recalls many Mother's Day memories growing up.
“Sunday was family day and Mother’s Day brunch was a family tradition led by my father, Monroe. French toast and Eggs Royale (smoked salmon and poached eggs with hollandaise on an English muffin with an organic baby greens salad) with fresh juices and mimosas led the way.”
Not surprisingly, those dishes found their way onto the Mother’s Day menu, along with the stalwart, grilled Ōra King Salmon (sustainably raised in New Zealand), organic market vegetables, and organic brown rice.
Garland loves much of the brunch menu but especially adores the crab cakes, eggs benedict and the Neapolitan omelette. "The French toast for the table is great to split."
All Porta Via locations will serve a holiday brunch menu until 2PM on Sunday, May 12 for Mother’s Day, featuring organic juices, specialty cocktails, traditional breakfasts, light appetizers, fresh salads, delicious pastas, and hearty entrees. The menu is both classic and creative, utilizing hand-picked produce, sustainable seafood, and all natural meats.
Other Mother’s Day menu highlights include the Morning Do juice – green apple, cucumber, lemon, ginger and mint; The Spritz Cocktail – gin, aperol, grapefruit, elderflower and prosecco; Spring English Pea Soup – vegan and gluten free; Porta Via Salad – organic butter lettuce, shaved sweet onion, dill, chervil, avocado; French Feta with champagne shallot vinaigrette; Tortellini – ricotta, julienne mustard greens & white wine sage cream sauce; and Parmigiano Crusted Halibut.
