Long Island Cares, State Farm partner to fight hunger

To successfully carry out its mission of helping those living with food insecurity within the region, Long Island Cares has partnered with myriad of local organizations such as State Farm to accomplish this. Over the past several months, the insurance provider has donated $34,000 to support the food bank’s Mobile Food Pantry Program. Designed to provide home delivery of nonperishable food, personal care products, household supplies and pet food to high-risk, homebound individuals in need, the service also offers assessment for additional social services.

 

1-800-Flowers promotes inclusive employment with spring dcor

Through its Smile Farms nonprofit, 1-800-Flowers empowered people of all abilities to craft floral arrangements for the spring fling dance at the Center for Developmental Disabilities.

Along with participants with the From Tears to Cheers vocational program, the arrangements served as dcor for the students attending the dance hosted by and for the Center for Developmental Disabilities. This same group will be working together later this month to design and prepare floral arrangements, boutonnieres and corsages for the center’s prom.

 

Guidance center raises $100K in support of mental health programs

North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center held its sold-out spring luncheon at the Glen Head Country Club in support of its mental health programs. Raising $100,000, the event proceeds will be dedicated to the center’s mission of treatment for all patients, regardless of their financial situation.

The luncheon featured games of Mahjong, Canasta and boutique shopping opportunities courtesy of various Long Island-based, women-owned businesses. The guest speaker was CBS 2 News anchor and reporter Cindy Hsu, who shared her personal story of overcoming depression and a suicide attempt.

 

Chase hosts financial health event for Wyandanch students

Students from the Wyandanch Union Free School District teamed up with JPMorgan Chase mentors (pictured) for a “Shark Tank” style business pitch competition. The student-founded businesses range from a math tutoring app to a fashion marketing AI startup and a hair product delivery service.

This event is part of a larger financial health partnership between the bank and the school district, which includes interactive financial health workshops for students focusing on money management, spending habits and investing for the future.
