Sutton said he opened the shop to fill the void left by the closing of Kharma Cafe, a longtime coffeehouse on Fry Street. “It’s important to honor the community down here — it’s important to bring it back or people will stop coming to Fry Street,” he told the Denton Record-Chronicle in 2009. Big Mike Sutton could seem gruff, but locals remember him as a Fry Street businessman and would-be City Council member whose heart was as big as his personality.

Sutton died May 3 in the Lake of the Ozarks area in Missouri, where he had moved after retiring. He had just celebrated his 70th birthday.
