Eleanor Josephine Knight Stroberg, 82, affectionately known as "Jo" of 445 Woodland Church Road, Hertford, NC, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 5, 2024 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jo was born on July 31, 1941, at 423 Woodland Church Road, Hertford, the oldest of three children born to the late Wallace M. Knight, Sr. and Sally Benton Wood Knight. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sylvia K. Ball, and by her beloved husband, David Stroberg, retired Coast Guard Chief. Surviving are her two children: William "Bill" Stroberg and wife, Marsha; Sandy Tisdale and husband, Jimmy; and granddaughter, Hayley Tisdale, all of Hertford. Also surviving Jo is her loving brother, Marshall Knight and wife, Stella of Hertford; brother-in-law, Charles Ball of Chesapeake, VA; and three nieces, Holly Knight Snider, Maria Sable and Susan Fowler. Jo was a graduate of Perquimans County High School Class of 1959. She enjoyed meeting her classmates at their monthly luncheons at Captain Bob's. She was an active member of Woodland Pathway Community Church, formerly known as Woodland United Methodist Church - right next door to her residence. For many years Jo worked at JC Penny Company where she met her husband, David. After a short courtship, they married and Jo enjoyed many years as a Coast Guard wife, living in exotic places such as Miami, Florida and Kodiak, Alaska. Jo and Dave travelled extensively- taking road trips across North America many times into Canada and Alaska. Together, Jo and Dave had a passion for flying on their pontoon equipped ultra-light aircraft. Jo was passionate about her family. She entertained her extended family and friends with Sunday dinners and holiday meals. She loved baking cakes, pies and cookies and was famous for providing delicious epicurean delights to her family and friends. Every summer she opened her pool to the neighborhood children and hosted many school pool parties. Of course, the children also benefited from the delicious cookies and sweet treats. A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and was conducted by The Rev. Dr. Matt Thomas. Burial followed in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City. Friends may visit with the family at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
