    The week in baseball: Rib Lake catches Abbotsford

    It’s come down to the wire on the diamond as Rib Lake High School has managed a tie for the Marawood North conference lead with Abbotsfords. Both teams are at 9-1 in the conference.

    Abbotsford has amassed a 15-7 overall record with a 10-4 non-conference win against Neillsville/Granton on May 10, and a 10-0 win over Phillips on May 9. Abbotsford has three games remaining, all non-conference matches.

    Rib Lake is 13-5 overall and most recently won twice against Phillips and twice against Chequamegon before a non-conference loss against Stratford. Rib Lake has four games remaining — all non-conference matches.

    Dominic Quednow is leading the team in batting with a .378 average, followed by Jackson Blomberg at .333. Quednow is also leading in runs batted in with 16, followed by Ethan Cook with 13.

    Athens has taken hold of third place with a 5-5 conference record and is 6-7 overall. The team has won twice against Chequamegon, defeated Assumption in a non-conference game, and split with Prentice, losing 5-0 and then winning 6-1. The team has one game remaining against Auburndale.

    Phillips is 4-6 in the conference and 4-8 overall. After a 4-0 start the Loggers have entered an eight game skid with three non-conference road games remaining at Barron, Hurley and Ladysmith.

    JJ Heikkinen is leading the team in batting with a .500 average, followed by Drew Hauschild at .323.

    Hauschild is leading the team in runs batted in with 8, followed by Daniel Adomaitis with 7.

    Adomaitis and Ayden Tobias are leading the team in pitching with 2 wins each.

    Prentice is currently 2-8 in the conference and 2-12 overall. The Buccaneers most recently won 5-0 at Athens and then lost 6-1 at home against Athens. The team has seven non-conference games remaining.

    Heston Hueckman is leading the team in batting with a .362 average, followed by Aidan Hause with .361. Adam Raab is leading in runs batted in with 9, followed by Hueckman with 8. Hueckman is also leading in pitching with 2 victories, followed by Jonas Staroba with 1.

    Chequamegon is currently 1-9 in the conference and 2-14 overall. After defeating Ironwood 5-4 on May 6, the Eagles hit a three-game skid with two losses to Rib Lake and one loss to Edgar. Chequamegon has six games remaining, four non-conference and two to-be-determined.

    Corbyn Phelps is leading the team in batting with a .304 average, followed by Nolan Niehoff at .273. Niehoff is also leading in runs batted in with 4, followed by Antonio Poetzl with 3. Phelps is leading in pitching with 1 win.

    NORTHERN LIGHTS CONFERENCE

    Butternut-Mercer is currently 2-8 in the conference and 2-9 overall, which is holding fifth place in the seven team conference. After a 23-13 win against Bayfield on April 26, the Pioneers have hit a four game skid with losses to South Shore, Mellen, Washburn and Drummond. The Pioneers continue at Bayfield on May 13, and at Hurley on May 18, before hosting Prentice in a non-conference match to end the regular season on May 20.
