Several candy items have been recalled from stores around the country, including Tennessee , due to the risk of a "serious" infection.

Palmer Candy Company of Sioux City, Iowa, issued a recall of its "White Coated Confectionary Items" after it was determined they could possibly be contaminated with salmonella. Products mentioned in the recall include various sizes and packages of Caramel Swirl Pretzels, Classic Yogurt Pretzels, Patriotic White Fudge Cookies, Peanut Butter Snack Mix, Zebra Fudge Cookies and many more. The full list of recalled products can be found at fda.gov .

According to a recall notice posted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration , salmonella could cause "serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems." Symptoms often include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, but more severe illnesses, such as arterial infections and endocarditis, could occur in rare circumstances.

The impacted products were distributed nationwide in Walmart, HyVee, Target and Dollar General.

The FDA urges anyone who has purchased the affected confectionary products to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. As of May 6, no illnesses have been reported as a result of consuming the affected products.
