PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Prairie Central won only six baseball games during the regular season.

Didn’t matter in the postseason opener on Monday.

Caden Addis threw a complete game shutout as Prairie Central beat Bloomington Central Catholic 3-0 in a class 2A regional opener on Monday at Illinois Wesleyan University. The Hawks (7-20) advance to play Maroa-Forsyth in the regional semifinal on Wednesday.

Canton blanked El Paso-Gridley, 3-0, in a class 2A regional quarterfinal.

Many games in central Illinois were rained out including the games in the Mid-Illini Conference race which features a three-way tie for first. East Peoria, Dunlap and Washington all share the lead with two games left on the schedule.

The EP-Pekin, Dunlap-Metamora and Washington-Morton games were all postponed to Tuesday.

In high school softball, Central Catholic, Stark County and Tri-Valley won regional openers.
