Steve Carell will not appear in Peacock’s upcoming spinoff of The Office , the actor said Monday.
“I will be watching, but I will not be showing up,” Carell told our sister site THR . “It’s just a new thing, and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that.”
He continued: “But I’m excited about it. It sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea.”
In early May, Peacock ordered to series a new, yet-to-be-titled comedy from Greg Daniels (who adapted the UK’s The Office ) and Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman. The mockumentary-style series will be “set in the same universe” as NBC’s The Office and will follow the documentary crew that chronicled Dunde Mifflin’s Scranton branch for years. They’ll eventually come across a dying Midwestern newspaper whose publisher is trying to keep the publication alive by using volunteer reporters.

Domhnall Gleeson ( Alice & Jack ) — who starred alongside Carell in The Patient — and Sabrina Impacciatore ( The White Lotus ) will lead the ensemble cast.
Gleeson is “an excellent actor and a super nice guy,” Carell added, “so I think it’ll be great.”
He also addressed the matter on Monday’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert , though he was slightly less definitive in his answer.
