Prime Video announced on Tuesday morning as part of its inaugural Upfront presentation to advertisers that it has greenlit a sequel to its Jake Gyllenhaal-led Road House movie reboot, which premiered on the streaming service back in March.
Gyllenhaal is confirmed to be reprising his role as Elwood Dalton, a former UFC fighter who in the first movie was recruited by Frankie (Jessica Williams) to be the head bouncer at the Florida Keys watering hole she owns, which is being terrorized by a real estate developer’s assorted minions
Dalton took the well-paying gig, and when not slipping away for romance on a sand bar with ER doc Ellie (Daniela Melchior), he got into an astonishingly steady stream of scuffles, ultimately squaring off with a swole enforcer named Knox (former UFC champ Conor McGregor).
Plot details are being kept under wraps for the sequel. But I am assuming lots of punching, and that thing where the guy hops up and then juts both feet into his foe’s midsection. Always a crowd-pleaser.
In announcing the movie sequel, Amazon noted that its first trip to the Road House attracted “nearly 80 million worldwide viewers to-date,” after drawing a record-breaking 50 million-plus worldwide viewers over its first two weekends to become Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.
