    Landon J. Burnett has been recognized as the valedictorian and Celeste Robertson the salutatorian of the Miller Grove High School Senior Class of 2024.

    Valedictorian

    Burnett secured the top ranking with a 100.9 grade point average. He has attended MGISD for 15 years. He is the son of Kristi Burnett and Stephen Bovey, and JW Burnett and Karla Burnett.

    Burnett’s advice for other students to be successful is “No matter the obstacles, persistence will bring opportunity.”

    During high school, he participated in number sense UIL his freshman, sophomore, and junior years.

    He also played basketball, baseball, and did track freshman, sophomore, and junior year. He was awarded Newcomer All District in baseball and basketball freshman year, and was ranked First Team All District all three years.

    Burnett has also volunteered at church for several different events. A few of them include canned food drives, feeding the elderly on Valentine’s Day and volunteer work for VBS.

    When asked about any special traits or skills he might have, Burnett cited his leadership skills.

    “In situations where group assignments are assigned, I often find myself directing the work and helping others,”

    Burnett graduated from Paris Junior College on May 10 with an associate’s degree in general studies.

    He plans to attend Texas A&M College Station in the fall semester of 2024 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

    “I plan to pursue a career in civil engineering. My dad has always been an inspiration to follow the engineering path,” the 2024 MGHS valedictorian said.

    However, he said, the most inspiration he has received throughout 'my education was when my sister passed away in a car wreck in September of 2022. Since then, I have pushed myself to be the best version of myself, and achieve as much as possible for her.”

    Salutatorian

    Celeste Robertson earned salutatorian honors with a 99.8 GPA. She has attended MGISD for seven years. She lives with her grandparents, Pam and Jim Bayuk, in Miller Grove.

    Robertson has been very active in sports throughout her career at MGISD, and received various honors for her athletic achievements.

    Her sophomore year she played varsity volleyball and earned Academic All District recognition. As a junior in high school, she made Academic All District and First Team All District for her contributions to the varsity volleyball team; was a state cross country championship while part of the varsity team; and a Regional Qualifier and All Region Runner as part of the varsity track team.

    Her senior year, Robertson again played varsity volleyball, received Academic All District and was named Server of the Year.

    After high school Robertson plans to attend the University of North Texas, where she will major in computer science, with a goal of going into the cybersecurity field in the future.
