James Gunn’s reimagined DC film universe hasn’t started up just yet, but now we know when its second film – Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – will be released.

According to Deadline , Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released in theaters in the US on June 26, 2026. The film is the second film to be dated in the upcoming DCU, James Gunn’s rebooted DC universe, with the first being another super film, Superman, set to be released on July 11, 2025.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will feature Australian actress Milly Alcock , best known for her role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, in the leading role of Kara Zor-El, otherwise known as Supergirl. She will reportedly be making some kind of an appearance first in Superman, but details are very slim at the moment.

The new Supergirl movie will be directed by Craig Gillespie – also Australian – who’s best known for directing films like Fright Night, I, Tonya, and Cruella. The Vampire Diaries and Hightown actress Ana Nogueira has been brought onto the project as a screenwriter; she will also act as screenwriter on the currently untitled Teen Titans film, also part of the DCU.

Woman of Tomorrow is based on a 2022 comic book series of the same name, which was written by Tom King. The eight-issue miniseries tells the story of Kara Zor-El’s time spent in space, in which Kara meets an alien girl called Ruthye and helps the girl seek justice for her father’s death. The series was very well received by critics and fans alike.

Gunn’s DCU is highly anticipated by comic book fans, with fans reacting strongly to the first look at David Corenswet in Superman earlier this month. Granted, most people were a little bit concern that David Corenswet’s Clark Kent was being a bit slow to put on his boots when Metropolis seemed to be under siege by an alien threat, but hey, looking good takes time.
