Monday evening, the Le Sueur-Henderson baseball team hosted the Waseca Bluejays in a nonconference showdown. Peyton Tellijohn pitched the complete game for the Giants, earning a 4-2 victory while limiting Waseca to just five hits.

With the win, LS-H improves to 11-4 (8-3 MRC) on the season with just four games remaining in the regular season schedule.

Tellijohn pitched seven innings, six of them scoreless, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out 11 batters.

The Giants got the action going in the bottom of the first with a string of singles from Sam Gupton, Logan Feeney and Tellijohn with the final one bringing Gupton back across home plate. A fielder’s choice brought a second run across the plate before a flyout ended the inning.

In the bottom of the second, Talen Schwandt drew a two-out walk before Ethan Hathaway crushed a ball into deep right center field for an RBI triple. The score remained unchanged until the bottom of the fifth when Gupton blasted a solo homerun to left field to give the Giants a 4-0 lead.

Waseca would finally break through in the top of the seventh with three straight hits to open the inning resulting in a pair of runs, but the Bluejays rally ended with a fly out to left, a ground out to third and a strikeout.

Gupton and Tellijohn each recorded two hits for LS-H while Hathaway, Feeney and Gavin Schwarz rounded out the hits.

After facing Mayer Lutheran Tuesday night, the Giants are scheduled to return action Thursday, May 16, with a road game against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
