    Stars primed for state True Team success

    Holy Angels captured the Section 4AA girls title; Richfield girls place fifth, boys sixth

    The True Team format awards team points to each finisher instead of only the top eight finishers to test a team’s depth instead of rewarding only the best individuals.

    The Stars scored 530 points, 39 points ahead of runner-up DeLaSalle (491), Richfield was fifth (388) and Benilde-St. Margaret was sixth (302) among the 10-team field at the Section 4AA True Team meet on May 9 at Fridley High School.

    Stars senior Ashely Fisher won the 100- and 200-meter dashes as she prepares to make a bid for a third consecutive state title in June. Fisher won the 100 in 12.37 seconds and 200 in 25.67 while Richfield senior Janiya Moore was second in the 100m in 12.71 and third in the 200m in 26.59. Moore’s eighth-grade sister Jazara Moore was fifth in the 100 in 13.09 and sixth in the 200 in 27.56.

    Fisher’s teammate, Isabella Bonadonna was seventh in the 100 in a season-best 13.17 and Stars teammate Calli Holmes was 10th in the 200 in a personal-best time of 28.55.

    Fisher also won the triple jump with a season-best leap of 36 feet, 7 inches while classmate Brooke Wisdom was second at 35-3 1/2.

    Janiya Moore edged out Jazara Moore for third place in the 400 dash in a season-best 1:03.06 while Jazara Moore finished fourth in 1:03.51. Holy Angels freshman Annaliese Raasch was fifth in 1:05.75 BSM freshman Kassidy Miller was sixth in 1:06.80 and Stars sophomore Adeline Judson was 10th in 1:09.06.

    Stars senior distance specialist Caroline Pierce was second in the 3,200 run in a personal record of 12:34.40 and junior teammate Maggie Moe was eighth in 13:38.37. Richfield sophomore Signe Linne was fourth in 12:54.17.

    Pierce was third in the 1,600 in 5:54.53 while Linne set a new personal record to place fifth in 5:59.47, and senior classmate Parker Polis was 12th in 6:37.79.

    Holy Angels sophomore Claire Kuntz was fourth in the 800 in 2:45.69 and classmate Quinn Rich was 15th in 3:06.80.

    Pollis and freshman classmate Ellarie Odenthal finished eighth (2:50.77) and 10th (2:53.73), respectively.

    Pollis was second in the shot put going 29-11 and teammate Ariet Onyongo was 15th at 21-9.

    Stars sophomore sprinter Olivia Tri placed second in the hurdle events including a personal record in the 100 in 17.38 and 300 in a season-best 50.32. Senior teammate Molly O’Malley was fifth in the 300 in 54.25 and seventh in the 100 in 19.69.

    Tri was fifth in the Discus with a personal record of 77-02 and junior Ally Pellegrini was 14th in 57-04.

    Richfield junior Bryn Belland was eighth in 70-07 and Caitlin Smith was 12th with a personal record of 62-06.

    Stars senior Brooke Wisdom won the Pole Vault clearing 10-6 while BSM junior Juliette Larson was second at 8-6 and Richfield sophomore Addy Taylor was fourth clearing 7-6. Stars senior Alaina DeCrans was sixth at 7 feet and Richfield sophomore Nadine Neu was seventh at 6-6.

    Holy Angels junior Audrey Erickson won the long jump going 16-4 for a new personal record while sophomore teammate Mia Elm was ninth at 14-3.

    Holy Angels picked up a big chunk of team points in the relays winning the 4x200 in 1:44.74 while the team was second in the 4x100 (51.10) and 4x400 (4:23.03) and was third in the 4x800 in 11:00.95.

    Totino-Grace won the boys title with 530 points while DeLaSalle finished second with 493 points. Fridley was third (421), Holy Angels was fourth (399), Richfield was sixth (352) and BSM was seventh (306.5).

    Holy Angels senior Jake Zitek swept the throwing events including a season-best discus throw of 124-03 and went 42-03 in the shot put.

    Richfield senior Quinn Cossett was second in the discus going 110-01 and junior teammate Michael McKnight was fifth with a throw of 96-09. Richfield senior Tayjhon Turley was eighth in the shot put going 36-05 and junior teammate Ricardo Lopez Corral was 10th going 34-11.

    Richfield senior Brennan Thimm set a new personal record to place third in the high jump clearing 6 feet and classmate Musa Sanneh was 14th clearing 5-2. Richfield sophomore pole vaulters Joshua Punzal and Brendan Smith placed among the top seven. Punzal was third clearing 10 feet and Smith was seventh clearing nine feet.

    In the horizontal jumps, Stars junior Damian Devine was fourth in the long jump clearing 20 feet while Richfield junior Drew Bartle was fifth going 19-11. Bartle was sixth in the triple jump going 38-7 1/2 and Thimm was 11th at 34-2 1/2. Stars junior John Schletty was eighth with a personal record of 38 feet and freshman Owen Boarman was 10th clearing 34-10 1/4.

    Stars sophomore Louis Ahern was second in the 3,200 run in a personal record of 10:11.12. In the 1,600, Stars sophomore Thomas Hopkins was fifth in a personal record of 4:46.43 and senior Sawyer Johnson was seventh in 4:54.71.

    Hopkins was fourth in the 800 in 2:08.24 and classmate Samuel Rodriguez was eighth in 2:13.70.

    Richfield’s Sanneh was fourth in the 400 dash in 51.93 and Bartle was ninth in 56.48.

    Stars sophomore sprinter Emmett Anderson was eighth in the 200 dash in 24.39 and was ninth in the 100 dash in a personal record of 11.85 while Richfield sophomore Kenneth Lindberg shared the personal record time, finishing 10th.

    In the relays, BSM won the 4x800 in 8:50.53 and Holy Angels third in 9:03.80. Richfield’s 4x200 team was second in 1:33.87 and the Spartans 4x100 team was third in 45.65.
