Elite athletes were on Long Island Wednesday to check out the new stadium for the 2024 Cricket World Cup.

Eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, who is an ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, says cricket is upbeat, exciting and growing in popularity in the United States.

A 34,000-seat stadium has been built in East Meadow and will be filled with fans from around the globe.

There will be eight Cricket games over 11 days at Eisenhower Park beginning June 3.

I’m happy for the athletes to compete in this sport. But I cringe at the place it’s at because that park and town cannot handle the traffic and large crowds. Sometimes the money these politicians tell us how beneficial it is really isn’t worth it
