The Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management in coordination with the Anne Arundel Community College and the Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management (I-DIEM) is hosting a free summer camp program called HERricane. The HERricane camp is a free week-long program designed to encourage young women in high school and college to explore careers in emergency management.

The HERricane camp will take place from July 15-19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, located at 101 College Pkwy. This unique program offers participants the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities, interactive workshops, and field trips led by industry professionals.

“We are thrilled to host the HERricane camp again this year and provide young women with the chance to discover the diverse career opportunities in emergency management,” said Preeti Emrick, director of Anne Arundel County OEM. “By fostering an interest in this field at a young age, we hope to inspire the next generation of leaders who will help build resilient communities.”

During the camp, participants will learn about emergency preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation strategies. They will also have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field and gain valuable insights into the importance of diversity and inclusion in emergency management.

The HERricane camp is open to young women in high school and college. To apply or learn more about the program, visit our website or email HERricane@aacounty.org.

An alternate format is available upon request. Contact the Office of Emergency Management at 410-222-0600 or oem@aacounty.org. TTY users, please call via Maryland Relay 7-1-1.
