The Chicago White Sox shut out the Washington Nationals for a second straight game, securing a series win with Wednesday's 2-0 victory. Garrett Crochet tossed five scoreless innings , and the White Sox relief crew held the Nats hitless. Tommy Pham and Korey Lee drove in Chicago's two runs.

Crochet battled through most of his start but escaped unscathed. The lefty allowed three hits and issued three walks while striking out six. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the third with an inning-ending strikeout. Crochet entered the fifth with 80 pitches but made quick work of Washington, retiring the side in order with nine pitches.

    The Only Two You Need

The Pale Hose got on the board in the third inning with some help from Nationals left fielder Ildemaro Vargas. Braden Shewmake scored from first when Vargas mishandled Pham's double down the line. Pham advanced to third with one out but was left stranded.

Patrick Corbin held the White Sox at bay for the most part. He allowed six hits but needed only 82 pitches to record 17 outs. He exited after Andrew Benintendi's two-out double in the sixth. Korey Lee plated Benintendi with a single off reliever Derek Law.

    Relief and Drama

The South Siders' bullpen put together another stellar day to lock down the game. Jared Shuster and Jordan Leasure were magnificent, allowing no hits, runs, or walks. Shuster pitched over Paul DeJong's throwing error in the sixth, retiring the next six hitters he faced in order.

The ninth inning included some drama from closer Michael Kopech for the second straight game. The righty put the tying run on base with two outs after back-to-back walks. However, he induced a flyout off CJ Abrams' bat to end the game and earn the save .

    News and Notes

Before the game, the White Sox announced a few roster moves . Chicago designated Rafael Ortega for assignment to make room for Corey Julks, who was acquired from the Houston Astros for pitcher Luis Rodriguez.

Julks will head to Triple-A Charlotte, while Dominic Fletcher rejoins the club in Chicago.

The White Sox finished 5-2 on the homestand and are 11-8 since starting the season 3-22.
