Phillips High School senior Kacy Eggebrecht was presented with the 2024 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s (WIAA) Statewide Scholar Athlete Award at a May 5 ceremony in Stevens Point. Eggebrecht was named the Division 3 girls awardee at the event where 32 scholar athlete finalists from around the state were invited to be recognized at the awards ceremony.

More than 836 seniors were nominated for the award by 422 high schools throughout the state, according to the WIAA. The finalists included four boys and four girls who were selected based on athletic and academic achievement, from each of the four WIAA divisions.

“To qualify, each student must have earned at least four varsity letters in the first three-and-one-half years of high school … with a grade point average of at least 3.0,” said WIAA Assistant Director Tom Shafranski. “In this year’s class, 17 of the finalists have achieved a 4.0 GPA, including Kacy. All 32 of our scholar athlete finalists are multi-sport athletes and, as a group, have earned a total of 323 varsity letters during their first 3 1/2 years of school … that’s an average of 10 letters each. Kacy has earned 11 varsity letters. And, bear in mind that this is only their total through the first half of their senior year.”

Eggebrecht has a 4.0 and earned 11 letters in volleyball, basketball and softball. She is a nine-time conference team champion, including two titles in softball, three in volleyball and four in basketball.

Eggebrecht helped the Loggers to four straight regional championships and was named to the all-conference first team three times and was voted conference player of the year. She is a two-time first team all-conference selection in volleyball and helped her softball team make a state appearance in her freshman season.

“Motivation is essential to achieving success,” Eggebrecht said in the press release announcing her as a finalist. “Prioritizing school work, and effectively practicing time management skills, is important as I pursue my goals. Through athletics, I have experienced countless setbacks that taught me the virtue of resilience. Setbacks will always happen, but it is your response that matters.”

Eggebrecht plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to study animal science.

Kacy Eggebrecht is the eighth Phillips High School student to be named a WIAA student-athlete of the year, according to a post on the Loggers booster page on Facebook. Her sister, Jada Eggebrecht, received the honor in 2022, and was preceded by Ellie Lochner in 2016; Trent Thielke in 1999; Nick Gabay in 1998; Kevin Bushman in 1993; Necole Heath in 1989; and Tamara Thomas in 1984.
